Lekhadeep was promoted by Parents Association of Accountants’ General Offices Employees for the welfare of mentally handicapped children in the year 1 Read more994 at Qr. No C-49 of A.Gs. Staff Quarters, Hyderabad. A unique community project patronaged by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. Since then, Lekhadeep has been imparting training to the differently abled children and providing employment in their own sheltered workshop with a stipend ranging from Rs. 400/- to Rs.1250/- depending upon their capability and performance. Currently, there are about 60 mental retarded employees, including 7 multiple disabled and 2 autistic children, employed in the organization. The potential differently abled children are selected and given admission based on the NIMH Certificate and training imparted in manufacturing file pads/file covers, envelopes, note books, phenyl/washing products, etc, based on their unique capability and competency. All the products manufactured are supplied to government/private establishments, schools and colleges, and neighboring residents with good marketing value and viability. All the products manufactured by the organization are patronized by High Court of Hyderabad, Accountants General Offices of AP & Telangana States, Hyderabad; Brahmam Talent High School; residents of A.G. Colony; Madhuranagar Welfare Association; and Kakatiya Seva Samithi, Hyderabad.

    Concepts from Living Skills, such as colour, size, form, time, money, and cleanliness, and from Social Skills, such as clothing, toileting, and communication, are crucial for the successful integration of Vocational Training and provide Comprehensive School to Workshop Training (VTC) preparation through Pre Vocational Training.

    Start a self-employment project on a feasible and sustainable foundation.

    This can be done with parental help or with funding from organisations like the National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation or CAPART (Rural).

    Note: Those who are not mature enough, driven enough, or lack appropriate family support will remain in the Sheltered Workshop and make as much money as they can.
