  • Community Care Centers

Ten-bed Community Care Centers (CCC) have been opened by Bhoruka Public Welfare Trust in the following locations:
    1. Guwahati, Assam began operations in July 2008 with assistance from ASACS.
    2. With assistance from the Catholic Bishop's Conference of India (CBCI), a second CCC will be founded in the West Bengal region of Jalpaiguri by January 2009.
The Community Care Centers (CCC) are essential in helping people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) get access to ART. They also offer positive prevention, medication adherence, nutrition counseling, monitoring, and follow-up services to those starting ART. Another crucial task that CCC must perform is the monitoring of PLHA who do not yet need ART (pre-ART care). It offers both inpatient and outpatient therapy facilities.

  • Anti Girl Trafficking

The situation gets worse by the poor socioeconomic status of the border populations. Bhoruka carried out a research study along the Indo-Nepal border in 1999 in order to comprehend the scope of the issue and create a targeted plan to combat girl trafficking.

The survey revealed that Indians, both in the community and among law enforcement, had little sense of ownership or understanding of the problem.

BCC Events: Talking doll and puppet display; video show; folk songs and activities; anti-trafficking community kiosk program; street drama

Activities at Shelter house: In the Panitanki area, a shelter house has been established for survivors of human trafficking. Over the course of the reporting period, seven survivors were placed.

UNIFEM provides funding for this initiative.

  • HIV/AIDS Intervention

An action research study exploring the relationship between stigma and intimate partner violence among mobile and mobility-affected groups in and around Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, India, is being conducted in collaboration with BHORUKA and The International Centre for Research on Women (ICRW). The main target groups are spouses of truckers, helpers of truckers, and sex workers.
The goals of the Stigma and Violence Reduction Intervention (SVRI) Project are to promote safe sex behaviors, including the use of condoms, and to effect behavioral and attitudinal changes related to stigma and violence.

It suggests, in particular, that condom use be increased, attitudes toward HIV positive people be less stigmatizing, that intimate partner violence be tolerated less.
