The central mission has always been the holistic advancement of Attappady's populace, with a particular emphasis on the scheduled tribes, aiming to liberate them from the shackles of illness, destitution, and malnutrition. Its vision draws inspiration from Swami Vivekananda's call to serve every individual as a manifestation of the divine, striving to elevate the most remote and underprivileged corners of India. It focused on breaking the chains of ill health and poverty by means of education, empowerment, and social rejuvenation. It encompasses providing top-tier, cost-free healthcare services to the impoverished, conducting in-depth research on the healthcare challenges faced by Attappady's tribes, and equipping tribal youth and women with skills for economic self-sufficiency. Additionally, it aspires to create self-sustaining institutions that generate livelihood opportunities and preserve indigenous culture. The Trust's primary healthcare focus includes a hospital that provides free treatment to tribal patients, and it also engages in various community initiatives spanning education, skill development, women's empowerment, agriculture, and rural development, all offered to tribal beneficiaries without charge.

  • Community Health Programmes

    In addition to its hospital services, the Trust has launched a range of community health programmes and initiatives, aimed at delivering comprehensive care, specialized treatment for specific conditions, and promoting awareness regarding various health concerns within the tribal communities of Attappady. These initiatives encompass the involvement of Village Health Workers, the Community Mental Health Project, an Alcohol De-addiction Project, an Adolescent Girls’ Health Project, and a Sickle Cell Disease Project.

  • Education & Skill Development Programme

    Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Trust in Agali has launched an array of educational and skill development initiatives, including Educational Resource Centres situated within tribal villages, offering weekend classes to nurture critical thinking, self-discovery, moral values, and problem-solving skills among school children. It also conducts Micro-Enterprise Development Programmes supported by NABARD, covering diverse topics like saree printing, garment making, mobile services, and beautician courses, benefiting over 300 SHG members. Additionally, it collaborates with Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) to provide vocational training, offering courses such as embroidery, beautician training, and MS Office, empowering more than 100 women in skill development.

  • Livelihoods Programme

    The Trust in Agali has initiated several Livelihood Projects, including the formation of 50 self-help groups (SHGs) comprised of tribal women, which follow the Panchasutra principles for financial management and receive vocational training. It has introduced the Kitchen Garden Project to enhance the dietary intake of 100 tribal families by providing seeds, fencing nets, and agricultural support. Additionally, it has partnered with Krishi Vigyan Kendra to distribute tree saplings for nutrition gardens and is implementing a Medicinal Plants Cultivation Project in four tribal villages to establish a sustainable income source, supported by NABARD's FSPF Fund.

    Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Trust has initiated various community development projects, including the formation of Village Development Committees, which coordinate sanitation drives, medical camps, and awareness classes, addressing the needs of 75 villages. To combat water scarcity, it has launched Drinking Water Projects, led by water user committees managing resources and expenses. Additionally, the Trust, with the support of a Multi-National Company, established the Vellakulam Irrigation Project, benefiting 25 farmers and facilitating cultivation on approximately 60-80 acres of land, effectively addressing irrigation challenges and promoting agricultural activities in the region.

  • Livelihood and Enterprise Development Programme - LEDP

    The NABARD-funded Livelihood and Enterprise Development Programme (LEDP) for Establishing Freshwater Aquaculture Units in Attappady, initiated in March 2021, is set to benefit 150 farmers. It includes a comprehensive 10-day skill enhancement training, followed by refresher courses and exposure visits. After training, Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission offers one-year handholding support covering inputs, operations, credit, and marketing. As of now, 12 ponds have been established, with one ready for harvest. This initiative, officially inaugurated in December 2022, imparts practical knowledge and real-life experience to aquaculture enthusiasts.

  • Kerala Flood Relief Contributions

    In August 2019, Attappady faced severe devastation caused by heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides. Collaborating with Sevabharathi, relief efforts spanned Puliyara, Kuravanpadi, Chittoor, and other affected areas from August 9th to 22nd. The impacted families received essential aid, including rice, provisions, clothing, and household items. Notably, 94 families in Kuravanpadi, where prolonged power disruptions occurred due to natural disasters, were provided with solar lamps generously donated by the Synergy Educational and Charitable Trust, alleviating their months-long hardship.
