The action north east trust(the ant), is based in Rowmari, Lower Assam, was founded on October 13, 2000, by Sunil Kaul and Jennifer Liang. It works di Read morerectly in Chirang District, Bodoland, Assam.It has reached 900 village hamlets, focusing on education, child protection, women's empowerment, peace building, and mental health. Additionally creating women's collectives, providing development opportunities for village children through sports and science classes, and promoting non-violent conflict resolution. The ant runs "aagor," a weaving organization employing over 140 women weavers. There is a training center for capacity-building of NGOs in Assam and other northeastern states. Furthermore, a Craft Trust in Bangalore has been established, now known as The Ants Craft Trust, which promotes the northeast through high-quality art and crafts sales.

"1. 250 village hamlets across 7 work clusters, impacting around 75,000 people and 16 VCDCs have been reached. 2. ""aagor,"" a weaving organisation by THE ANT employees over 140 women weavers. 3. Project Avahan-to stop domestic violence against women has impacted 100 villages in Chirang district. 47 cases have been solved. 4. The Children Development and Education Programme is transforming 200 Government schools in Chirang district. 5. approximately 3000 children take part in weekly sports for development sessions."

    Project AVAHAN (Against Violence At Home – Act Now!) was initiated in May 2017 to combat domestic violence, This project challenges the normalization of domestic violence and aims to break the culture of silence surrounding it in 100 villages of Chirang.

    Project AVAHAN operates on three levels:
    1. Support for Survivors
    2. Changing the Culture of Violence Against Women
    3. Advocacy

    Significant progress and changes have been observed:
    A decrease in reported cases of physical violence.
    Families experiencing violence-free lives for extended periods.
    Reduction in physical violence, although emotional and verbal abuse persists.
    This initiative, while witnessing slow change, demonstrates promising results in reducing domestic violence and promoting healthier, non-violent family dynamics.

  • Childrens Development and Protection

    The LEAP project is dedicated to enhance the learning environment in government schools in two blocks of Chirang District impacting 1794 middle & 2444 primary school students.Project Shiksha aims to increase learning levels of children in the forest fringe areas bordering Bhutan. Project Dolphin aims to work directly in 21 schools to better the quality of education.Project Colouring the Rainbow project focuses on holistic development for children through sports and games. The Girl Icon Fellowship Program aims to empower adolescent girls aged 12 to 18 by nurturing their leadership skills.

  • Project MITA-Mental health treatment alliance

    The first mental illness treatment camp started in June 2007 in Rowmari in the campus of the ant. The camps are now held in far flung clusters of Chirang district and have expanded to 10 other districts of Assam. Project MITA is a financially sustainable model providing low cost but good quality,standardised medical treatment to treat cases of mental illness in rural areas. Over the years changes have been seen regarding mental illness and its treatment.

    IDeA incubation grant assist voluntary organizations in Northeast India, Project Enrich(Enabling the Rights of Children) aims to create a Child-Friendly society, Friends Across Barriers- supported by Terre De Hommes, Germany aims to strengthen the social harmony among the different communities in Manipur and Assam focusing primarily on children, youth and community Research and Trainings

    The Aagor waeves- trust involves over a hundred women weavers, primarily from the Bodo tribe. Aagor has attracted clients like Fab India, Big Bazaar, Mother Earth, and Tribes, despite being a non-profit organization based in the remote and strife-torn Bodoland area of Assam, run entirely by its weavers. Over 300 housemaids have been rehabilitated. 2. Remote area development Programme is dedicated to uplifting communities residing in remote, hard-to-reach border areas, ensuring their development with dignity and government responsibility.

    3. Community Health

  • Project FLY

    State

    Project FLY, a new initiative by IDeA-the ant, aims to introduce Ultimate Frisbee to the youth and communities of Northeast India in collaboration with partner NGOs. The project involves training selected members as coaches and supporting them in forming and coaching Ultimate Frisbee teams. It also focuses on organizing tournaments and promoting the sport while emphasising the spirit of the game.
    Currently, seven organisations from seven districts of Assam and Nagaland have partnered with the ant, with 27 coaches trained to mobilise and train youth in Ultimate Frisbee.
