Programs

  • Technology for Child Protection

In June 2018, BBA and Capgemini jointly launched the innovative mobile application 'ReUnite.' This unique platform enables reporting, searching, and identifying missing and abandoned children on the streets. Users, including citizens and parents, can upload images of vulnerable children suspected to be missing. Utilizing facial recognition technology, the app matches uploaded images with an existing database of missing children from Government records. If a match is found, the user is alerted, providing information about the child's whereabouts. Notably, the app prioritizes security by automatically deleting user-uploaded photos once the app is closed.

  • Legal Interventions

The legal interventions involve initiating public interest litigations (PILs) to garner support for child protection. Several writ petitions have resulted in landmark Supreme Court judgments on child rights, leading to significant policy changes and creating a safe environment for children in India. In 2009, the All India Legal Aid Services on Child Rights (AILASCR) was founded, aiming to facilitate access to justice in cases of crimes against children, in collaboration with the National Legal Services Authority and the Delhi State Legal Services Authority.

  • Covid-19 Relief Programme

Bachpan Bachao Andolan actively engages in various activities, relief work, and campaigns to create a better world for children. Over 65,000 individuals in 15 states have received dry ration support for 20 days. The organisation conducts rescue operations, saving children from exploitative industries and trafficking situations. Additionally, it offers buildings as quarantine centres, follows up with rescued children and families, collaborates with Indian Railways to combat trafficking, and provides COVID-19 guidance to childcare institutions. Moreover, it assists migrant workers during challenging times.

  • Monitoring & Evaluation Process

BBA employs a comprehensive Monitoring & Evaluation process to document and assess the outcomes of its interventions. The Programme Management Team closely monitors field activities through weekly and monthly reports. The Documentation Team reviews project outputs, identifying any deviations from objectives or targets. Monthly review meetings are conducted to approve action plans and budgets. BBA utilizes a software-based information management system for planning and tracking rescued children, along with GIS technology for accurate location recording. A Heat Map is used to analyze trafficking patterns across the country by maintaining data on traffickers.

  • The Victim Assistance (VA) Programme

The flagship programme of BBA is the Victim Assistance (VA) programme, designed to comprehensively protect children from trafficking and forced labour. It began in 1980 with the rescue of a minor girl from bonded labour, preventing her from being sold into prostitution. Since then, over 1,00,000 children have been rescued and rehabilitated through this initiative. The VA programme's success has significantly contributed to reforming the legal and institutional mechanisms for child protection in the country. It aligns with BBA's mission of identifying, releasing, rehabilitating, and educating children in servitude through prevention, direct interventions, legal action, coalition building, and community-based efforts for rehabilitation.
