Museo Camera, which started in 2009 as Aditya Arya's personal collection of photographic equipment, has grown into South East Asia's largest not-for-p Read morerofit Centre for Photographic Arts. It operates through a unique partnership between India Photo Archive Foundation and The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, offering 18,000 sq. ft. of dedicated space for photography. The India Photo Archive Foundation's mission is to raise awareness about contemporary and historical photographs and archives. It emphasizes the historical significance of photographic collections, aiming to promote their access, use, and dissemination for academic, institutional, and cultural purposes. Museo Camera is one of the Foundation's key initiatives in this endeavour.

Programs

  • Mobile Photography Workshops with Schools

    Museo Camera, in partnership with the Murthy Nayak Foundation and local NGOs, has organized Mobile Photography Workshops for underprivileged school children. These workshops combine theoretical and practical aspects of mobile photography, equipping students with iPhones to create photo stories and develop their unique photographic styles. The focus is not solely on capturing images but on using the mobile phone camera as a tool for storytelling. Students are encouraged to engage with subjects, explore, establish meaningful dialogues, and express their experiences through thought-provoking visuals. Collaborative efforts with various organisations have extended the reach of these workshops, benefiting students from different regions.

    Museo Camera's permanent exhibition, born from Aditya Arya's personal collection, showcases the evolution of photography with 3000+ items, including antique cameras from 100+ countries, historic photographic equipment, films, lenses, and more. The archives house significant photos, notably the Kulwant Roy Collection, recognized as a National Collection by the Ministry of Culture, featuring rare images of India's historical figures. The museum also displays vintage photography-related advertisements, dating back to the 1880s, camera company memorabilia, and historic patents.
