Enable India acts as catalyzing community for assistive solutions to enable PwD. It has catered to the requirements of 14 disabilities such as vision Read moreimpairment, hearing impairment, locomotor disability, neurodiversity, severe and multiple disabilities. It provides a platform and services for PwD (People with Disabilities) through NGOs, institutions, volunteers and interns doing work in the area of disability and livelihoods. Cover service areas such as career counselling, job opportunities, training and self-employment/entrepreneurship. It was granted Special Consultative Status by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). It can represent the Disability sector in the United Nations General Assembly and United Nations Human Rights Council. It has a common platform named Enable Community for enthusiastic people with the same interest to enable people with different disabilities. It has 17,398 people in the community spread across 11 cities.


Issue

Specially abled people are discriminated against while selecting for employment opportunities and there are no good institutions to cater to their special needs and skill them accordingly.


Action

Enable India has taken up the cause of specially abled people and provides training in employable skills. It also facilitates the selection of specially abled and trained candidates to get good job opportunities in corporate houses according to their capabilities.

Impact

It has opened up 291 job roles through 725+ companies across 22 sectors. Helped people with severe disabilities to get hired in 287+ companies. Also impacted 2,20,000+ individuals in 28 states in India and collaborated with 229 partner organizations across 1050 locations in 27 countries.

Programs

  • GarvSe Center (GSC)

    GarvSe Centre is a nodal centre that strengthens the livelihood ecosystem of PwD through collaborating with stakeholders such as local government, NGOs, educational institutions, skilling partners, volunteers, parents of PwD and employers to learn and support for providing livelihood opportunities for PwD in their region.

    It has 8 operational GarvSe Centers:

    GarvSe - University Connect Program – Mysuru and Lucknow
    GarvSe – Swashakti-Rural Livelihood Program – Gadag, Koppal, Bengaluru Rural, and Hassan
    GarvSe - Sabal – Noamundi
    GarvSe – Corporate – Bengaluru City

  • Enable Inclusion

    Customises programmes for Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Government departments to provide employment to PwD under EwD (Employees with Disability) reservation/quota system.

  • Discovering Hands

    Visually impaired (VI) women have a special ability - Sense of Touch and the same is applied to provide employment opportunities and training to be economically independent and to create awareness of the detection and prevention of breast cancer at an early stage.

    Training by Discovering Hands is for a period of 9 months in order to become professional Medical Tactile Examiners (MTE). MTEs can detect breast cancer/tumour at an early stage that measures less than 0.3 mm due to their special tactile skills.

  • Enable Academy

    Offers a platform for NGOs/founders affecting livelihood, tools or models to scale. Also providing information, sources and training to people working in NGOs, parents of PwD and volunteers to help enable persons with disability. 5,990 people have taken courses through 325+ resources.
