The IndianOil Foundation (IOF) was established with a mission to protect, preserve, and promote India's rich cultural heritage. Collaborating with the Read more Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the National Culture Fund (NCF) of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, IndianOil created this non-profit trust in 2000. IOF, exclusively funded by IndianOil, is dedicated to adopting heritage sites across every state and union territory for the development of tourist infrastructure facilities. Its objectives encompass safeguarding the National Heritage, raising awareness, and fostering involvement in Indian heritage and culture. IOF's mission extends to enhancing community life quality, preserving ecological balance, and promoting a strong environmental conscience.

Programs

  • Khajuraho Monuments: Development & Preservation Programme

    The IndianOil Foundation is actively involved in the development and preservation of the Khajuraho Group of Monuments in Madhya Pradesh. These Hindu temples, known for their Nagara-style architectural symbolism, were built by the Chandela dynasty between 950 and 1050. Despite historical records mentioning 85 temples at the site, only about 25 have survived, spread over 6 square kilometers. Notably, the Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is adorned with intricate sculptures that showcase the depth and expressiveness of ancient Indian art. The Foundation's ongoing project includes the development of facilities for visitors, such as entrances, parking areas, pathways, ticket counters, and interpretation centers, aiming to enhance the overall experience of this World Heritage Site recognized by UNESCO for its human creativity.

  • Bhoganandishwara Temple: Development & Preservation Programme

    The IndianOil Foundation is engaged in the development and enhancement of the Bhoganandishwara Temple, situated in Nandi village at the base of Nandi Hills in Karnataka, India. This Hindu temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is recognized as one of Karnataka's oldest temples, dating back to the early 9th century. The Foundation's efforts at this historic site include the establishment of a small semi-open cafeteria, a viewers gallery, restroom facilities, drinking water kiosks, a cloakroom, parking areas, seating benches, landscaping, and signage to improve the overall experience for visitors and devotees.

  • ASI Goa Circle: Development & Preservation Programme

    State

    The IndianOil Foundation is actively involved in the development of tourist infrastructure facilities at several significant sites under ASI Goa Circle. These sites include the Mahadev Temple-Kurdi, Se Cathedral-Old Goa, Upper Fort-Aguada, Lady Rosary Church-Old Goa, and Basilica of Bom Jesus-Old Goa. The proposed facilities encompass parking areas, restroom blocks, drinking water facilities, well-defined pathways for visitor movement, landscaping, comfortable seating areas, pergolas, electrification, and signage. The Foundation is currently in the process of preparing the Concept Plan for these developments, aiming to enhance the overall experience for tourists and visitors at these historical sites.

  • Brihadeshwara Temple: Illumination Programme

    The IndianOil Foundation is currently involved in a project focused on illuminating the static facade of the Brihadeshwara Temple in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.

  • Khajrekhalan Ghat: Development & Preservation Programme

    The IndianOil Foundation is actively engaged in the development of infrastructure facilities at Khajekhalan Ghat in Patna Sahib, Patna, Bihar. These facilities include a multipurpose hall of approximately 750 square meters with amenities such as toilet blocks, bathrooms, dressing rooms, and sitting platforms. Additionally, the project involves the development of bathing ghats, a covered podium for crematorium use during the rainy season, open cremation platforms, construction of an embankment to protect against soil erosion, steps for safe access to the Ganga Ghat, road construction for improved communication, landscaping, railing works, soil conservation measures, power backup through a DG set, installation of additional gas-based cremation facilities, and the introduction of greenery and tree plantation to mitigate pollution. The project is currently in progress at the site, aiming to enhance the infrastructure and facilities for the community.

  • Warangal Fort: Development & Preservation Programme

    District

    The IndianOil Foundation is actively engaged in the development of tourist infrastructure facilities at various sites within the Warangal Fort in Telangana. These sites include the Swayambhu Temple Complex, Stone Fortification gates, Ekshila Temples, Kush Mahal, and more. The proposed facilities comprise a comprehensive diorama of the entire fort, an open museum, drinking water facilities, well-defined pathways, landscaping, comfortable seating areas, pergolas, and signage. Currently, the Foundation is in the process of preparing the Concept Plan for these developments, with the aim of enhancing the visitor experience at this historical and cultural site.
