Samarthya helps school-going children and their parents by creating awareness about the right to education (RTE). It is a right given by the Governmen Read moret of India to its citizens. It gets in touch with Government-run schools and helps form school management committees which as per the RTE should have members from the school as well as the parents of enrolled students. It is seen that because of a lack of knowledge about their rights, the parents are not part of such committees and do not have much say in the affairs of the school thereby leading to inferior quality of education and educational facilities. Through empowering parents to be leaders and part of school committees, Samarthya is trying to provide children with what has been promised in the right to education. The parents then can ask questions to the school management, make decisions for the betterment of facilities and have equal powers at par with the school management to get things done. They can inform their communities about the workings of the school and ensure that the schools deliver education as per the rules and rights laid out by the Government. The organisation aims to make public schools more aware with regard to facilities for children and transform them into centres of learning and excellence.

Samarthya focuses on fostering voice and agency among stakeholders, enabling them to identify and express their interests and concerns. It achieves this through capacity-building sessions at the grassroots level and with those who regularly interact with stakeholders. For instance, its work in Sonipat, Haryana, showcases the impact of Section 21 of the Right To Education Act, which mandates School Management Committees (SMCs) in Government-run and aided schools. In Sonipat, 93% of SMC members experienced more participative meetings, resulting in a substantial 60% of raised issues being addressed in the district's schools.
