Yuwa is an initiative dedicated to empowering girls from impoverished backgrounds in rural Jharkhand, India, where they face the threats of child marr Read moreiage and human trafficking. Combining team sports and education, it aims to foster character, confidence, and courage among these girls. It serves as a safe space where young girls, who may be unaware of their own value, come together to compete, achieve personal goals, and envision brighter futures. Equipping them with essential life and leadership skills, it prepares these girls to break free from the cycle of poverty indefinitely. The programme has expanded from a single team to encompass hundreds of girls, making it one of the largest girls' soccer initiatives in India. Furthermore, an impressive 90 per cent of these teams are coached by young women. Over 30 girls from Yuwa have shared their stories and insights at renowned platforms such as universities, TEDx events, and conferences both within India and globally.
