Abhoy Mission, a non-profit organisation, began its work in 1988 with a focus on aiding disadvantaged groups like elderly citizens and individuals wit Read moreh disabilities. It offers a range of services such as care and protection for senior citizens, education and rehabilitation for special-needs children, vocational training for disabled youth, and support for mentally ill women. Notably, it established the first school for intellectually disabled children in Tripura and a home for destitute elderly individuals. The organisation also pioneered various education and skill development programmes, earning recognition for its efforts at both the state and national levels. Over the years, Abhoy Mission has garnered awards for its exceptional service. It received the "Best SAMARTH Project" Award in 2006-07 and the "Manovikas Purashkar" in 2014 for its contribution to persons with disabilities. The organisation was honoured by the Government of India in 2018 as the Best Institution for its comprehensive service towards individuals with disabilities. Additionally, in 2019, special needs children from Abhoy Mission showcased their talents in a cultural event attended by the Hon’ble President of India at the Rastrapati Bhavan and Parliament House.

Our vision is to stand besides the people in distress, specially the vulnerable senior citizens and the children & persons with disabilities. We uphold the way in our onward eyes the ideal & philosophy of Swami Vivekananda for the welfare and the betterment of mankind.
MISSION/ OBJECTIVES :
Our Salient Missions are:
1. To protect the rights of the vulnerable senior citizens and the persons with disabilities for overall betterment.
2. Capacity building on Education, Vocational, Sports, Socio-Cultural, Employment, Independent living and Full Participation for children with special needs.
3. To arrange Training for teachers & Unemployed youth on the methods & procedure as to how to provide quality teaching & Care Giving to the Special need Children for quality survival.

  • Swabalamban Rehabilitation Centre for Children With Spl. Needs (Child Care Institute)

    The Special Child Care Institute named Swabalamban Rehabilitation Centre for Children with Special Need (Residential) commenced its service in Tripura at Gakulnagar Gram Panchayat under Bishalgarh R.D. Block. As many as 58 Nos. children are residing the Centre. Most of the children are orphan or abandoned and some belong to a poor family incapable to take care of the child. These children mostly suffers from intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, Autism, Multiple Disabilities, Hearing impairment, Speech impairment, Mental illness like Schizophrenia, Vision Impairment and Physical Impairment like Muscular Dystrophy. The underlying principle behind the mission is to bring the children in the main stream of the society by way of offering education to the children with multiple and intellectual disabilities through dealing with their individual strength & needs. The effort is busy with individual education program and monitoring system with the help of adapted equipments and resources. Training to develop personal skills including daily living skills, social, academic & occupational skills are provided to children with special needs. Moreover, training in Arts, Music, Dance and prevocational & vocational training is being provided to them. Children are being encouraged to acquire skills in sports & games.

  • Old Age Home

    Abhoy Mission initiated 'ABHOY ASHRAM' in 1993, a Rehabilitation Centre catering to destitute elderly individuals. It aims to restore happiness and well-being for seniors, addressing their physical, psychological, and social needs. Elderly persons without shelter or care are referred by the Police and District Legal Service Authority. The programme ensures a supportive environment with healthcare, nutritious meals, therapy sessions, counselling, and recreational activities. Moreover, it provides round-the-clock ambulance services and implements eco-friendly initiatives like the Solar Power Plant and Hot Water Plant.

Milestones & Track Record

Achievement - (1) 219 Nos. of destitute older Persons with disability were provided rehabilitation with nutrition, Health Care like medicine, doctor, Physiotherapy, Yoga therapy, Counseling, vocational therapy, psychological support, and recreation and entertainment in the Old Age Home. In the year 2019, 10 Nos. of mentally ill elderly persons were handed over from Psychiatric Hospital, by the then Health Minister, Govt. of Tripura. After coming to this home they have felt that they are in a free and homely atmosphere. After getting adequate nursing and care, they are now capable to interact with common people, domestic and vocational activities. They are attended by a team of trained personnel. It is observed that the life style of those persons have been changed. For their betterment Doctors are made available at the doorstep. In brief they have developed themselves from the stages where they had come from. This is a great achievement for Abhoy Mission. (2) ABHOY MISSION is running a Child Care Institution (CCI) under the nomenclature of ‘Swabalamban Rehabilitation Centre for children with special needs’ in Gakulnagar GP of Bishalgarh Sub-divisional area. Accessibility to care & protection for children with special needs, especially orphan, single parents children in protected setting is the rationale of the program. The CCI is recognized by the Government of Tripura, Directorate of Social welfare & Social Education with Registration No.03 under Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. Orphan children with special needs rescued from street are sent to our CCI by the administration of the State Govt. and are enrolled accordingly. Not only this we also arrange rehabilitation and mainstreaming of Child Need Care & Protection. 190 Nos. of such children from home State and out State are given the opportunity of rehabilitation in our CCI. These children are provided total rehabilitation procedure for mainstreaming viz. nutrition, medicine, doctor, Physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupation therapy, Yoga therapy, music therapy, Counseling, skill training, psychological support, normal & special education, sports through Special Olympics recreation and entertainment. Consequent of these, a formidable development have been observed in case of each children with special need. After careful and through investigation, the home address of some children were identified and handed over them in a healthy state to their parents. (3) ABHOY MISSION, in collaboration with Sense International India, started project for Children & Adults with Deafblindness & Multisensory Impairment. Capacity building and Empowerment of Children & Adults with involvement of Community Resources is the chief purpose of the project. Direct service is being provided through i) training within the ambit & principle of special education ii) Assistive Device on the functional needs of a child iii) Coordination with different agencies with goal of taking benefit of different schemes iv) regular counseling & motivation. Support service is being provided to those individuals who cannot be brought under direct service. Indirect service is provided through i) synchronization with different agencies & ii) counseling & inspiration. (4) Legal Guardians were appointed in favor of 398 persons with disabilities as specified in the National Trust Act, 1999. This is a right based achievement for PwDs. (5) Community Based Rehabilitation Apart from this Abhoy Mission has started Community Based Rehabilitation to the Senior Citizens & PwDs in the year 2003 and has come forward to mobilize support to the poor elderly & PwDs of rural areas giving food grains, clothes, medicines, hygiene, essential commodities and pocket money every month so that those people get attached with the family and live with dignity. In the last 5 (five) years, as many as 6686 elderly persons with disabilities have been benefitted. Service Provided during Pandemic of Covid-19 In the year 2020. During the serious situation, Abhoy mission has extended its cooperation to the distressed people and elderly disabled person of the rural area by providing Nutritional support, medical and hygienic support and cash money to meet the emergency requirement. The data is given below :- 2020-21 = 1327 Nos. Person from 38 Gram Panchayet of 10 Blocks, and 1 Municipality area were covered. 2021-22 = 804 Nos. Person from 28 Gram Panchayet of 6 Block were covered. By this support total 2131 Nos. of beneficiaries have survived during the pandemic situation. This is a great achievement of the organisation. Habilitation-Rehabilitation by counselling Another great achievement is that, 3 Nos. of elderly destitute persons were rescued by police authority and handed over to Abhoy Ashram. After continuous counselling and psychological therapy we have been able to know about their whereabouts. A Panchayet level investigation, find out their family. After family counselling, those 3 persons have been re-united with their family. Sensitization & Awareness Program- Different Panchayet & Block under West Tripura & Sepahijala District of Tripura State were covered. 66 Nos. of awareness and sensitization program was held regarding Maintenance Act,2007 health issues, RPWD Act, 2016, JJ Act, National Trust Act, Right to Education Act etc.
