Issue

1. Pickup/Rescue & Reunion /Rehabilitation of Mentally Ill Destitute: Walk down any street in Mumbai, and you are likely to encounter them. The destitute of the land – homeless, hopeless and unwell in mind and body. Too often, they are completely invisible to society. Living a “life” in psychological trauma, and under the most inhumane conditions. A study estimates their numbers to be around 1 lakh in the city. They come from all over India, looking for work but not all are fortunate enough to find it and end up in this misery. Once they are out of the little money they began with, they are deprived of food and many other basic necessities. This can lead to several psychological problems like schizophrenia, fear psychosis and mood disorders. Some people find themselves on the city’s streets by the default of circumstance – bad home situations or pre-existing psychological problems that leave them in this state. They leave their homes not knowing where to go, and once in an unknown city, become even more vulnerable to circumstance. 2. Old Age Home: For all the talk of India's demographic dividend, its bulging youth population, the country is also graying rapidly. According to a 2016 report by the ministry for statistics and project implementation, India has 103.9 million elderly, people above age 60, about 8.5 per cent of the population. These numbers are reliant on the 2011 census. The elderly population has grown at about 3.5 per cent per year, double the rate for the population as a whole; a 2014 report shows that, by 2050, as many as 325 million people, or 20 per cent of the population, will be 'elderly'. While the overall population of India will have grown by about 40 per cent between 2006 and 2050, the report adds, the elderly population will have grown by 270 per cent. 3. HIV Nutrition Program: HIV affected people are neglected and treated like untouchables by the society due to the stigma attached to it. Their families are isolated by their near and dear ones. Their sufferings increase if they are financially weak and it’s difficult for them to find livelihood by doing any job due to the behavior of society towards them. The affected children are the major sufferers as they face physical as well as mental trauma. The female HIV +ve cases face a lot of difficulties as they not only have to look after their health but also have to take up the responsibility of running their family. Poor nutrition intake further deteriorates their general health which in turn leads to a complete physical and mental breakdown.
