Uttarayan, an NGO with over 35 years of experience devoted to the preservation of both people and ecosystems, has consistently improved the ecological Read more health of South Bengal. As a member of Pallisree, the largest nursery organisation in West Bengal, it utilizes resources to support efforts in ecological restoration. Teaming up with WWF West Bengal, Uttarayan is in the process of establishing a nursery for elephant feed and repellant plantation, to revitalize fragmented habitats within the North Bengal Terai elephant corridors. In collaboration with the Rainmatter Foundation, it facilitates forest and landscape restoration through inclusive methods. Its extensive work with WCT in Sundarbans involves the development of a model village in Songaon, Gosaba, concentrating on the restoration of saline lands and the cultivation of balanced plantations to promote the harmonious rejuvenation of ecosystems alongside human well-being. The NGO's primary objective is to intricately restore fragmented corridors in South Bengal, promoting the resurgence of once-plentiful flora and fauna. In response to challenges posed by population growth-induced fragmentation, Uttarayan strives to mitigate human-animal conflicts and reverse mass extinctions, thereby fostering the reconnection of ecosystems across Jharkhand, Orissa, and West Bengal. Collaborating closely with local stakeholders is paramount, empowering them to actively contribute to the restoration efforts.
