In urban areas, the emphasis lies on educating children about wildlife, biodiversity, and promoting a sense of responsibility towards conservation and the environment. In rural regions, outreach efforts extend to communities living near forests, tackling challenges arising from human-wildlife interactions. To foster harmonious coexistence and reduce potential conflicts, assistance is extended to the government, particularly the Forest Department, in implementing conservation initiatives on the ground and conducting workshops to enhance technical expertise and morale. The overarching vision is a thriving and enduring natural legacy for India, revered and safeguarded by its populace. The mission involves raising awareness about India's wildlife, forests, and indigenous communities, providing support to various stakeholders in conservation endeavours, and actively engaging in the sustainable development of villages and tribal settlements adjacent to forests. The aim is to establish an inclusive conservation framework with the involvement of stakeholders, emphasizing community and government partnerships, and fostering capacity building across various levels.

Impact

Last Wilderness Foundation has made a significant impact, covering over 5 protected areas, implementing more than 150 projects and initiatives, reaching out to over 400 villages, and touching the lives of over 25,000 individuals.

Programs

  • The Pardhi Education Programme

    The Pardhi Education Programme, has backed the education and extracurricular activities of nearly 200 students across various age groups in the 2022-2023 academic year. Offering hostel facilities, remedial teachers, and nutritional support, the initiative addresses the unique needs of the nomadic Pardhi community. LWF also encourages sports activities, recognizing the community's talent. The programme continues to support students until graduation, guiding them toward financial independence. The Pardhi Education Centre Initiative aims to enhance education early on, run by Pardhi ex-students and partnered with Columbia University for teaching aids and curriculum. The Gandhigram Centre's merger with the local Anganwadi fosters better focus in studies, reduces stigma, and receives support for infrastructure and resources.

  • Meri Beat, Mera Abhimaan

    In collaboration with the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department, the Last Wilderness Foundation executed a three-day interactive workshop and field visit, focusing on enhancing interpersonal skills and delivering essential Human Resource Training. Acknowledging the pivotal role of Forest Department staff, LWF aimed to conduct a professional workshop to elevate training standards, address concerns and uplift overall morale. The objective was to foster professional support, instill pride in their roles, and encourage engagement with stakeholders for enhanced forest protection. Attended by over 25 Forest and Deputy Rangers, this workshop contributes to the Critical Wildlife Corridor Conservation initiative at Panna Tiger Reserve, supported by DCB Bank.
