Navajeevan Bala Bhavan reaches out to the young at risk through its presence on Vijayawada and nearby railway stations, streets in and around, bus sta Read moretions, bathing ghats, market yards, Autonagar industrial estate, etc. These apart, the Navajeevan team and volunteers reach out to the vulnerable children in 95 villages of 18 Mandals and 40 slums in Vijayawada urban under the ‘Child Safety Net’ (CSN) project. Of late, NJBB started providing a special focus on the children of migrants (established Migrants Desk), apart from other categories of children at risk it takes care of down the years including rescue/ home-integration/ rehabilitation of street and working children. These temporary migrant families and their children leave their villages due to drought and loss of livelihood means. There is an enormous increase in the migrant population especially in areas dedicated to the new Capital of AP, which includes operational areas of Navajeevan. Navajeevan takes pride in rescuing 50000 children and home integrated nearly 32000. Most of the children rescued are from economically marginalized and socially excluded communities/families. Navajeevan’s strategy is, ‘the earlier a child is identified and removed, easier and more effective’ the child’s home integration, and if that is not possible, rehabilitation through various programs (bridge course, formal education, and skills training).

Programs

  • Chiguru Children Village

It serves as a residential bridge school for children, encompassing both boys and girls, with the aim of preparing them for mainstream education. The children at Chiguru are accommodated in small groups within various cottages termed as Group Care Homes, providing an alternative care model that ensures individual attention. Situated alongside the Krishna River, Chiguru offers an idyllic setting conducive to the holistic development of the children. Located amidst serene surroundings, the village setting allows the children to establish a connection with nature and distance themselves from their previous familial circumstances. Additionally, Chiguru extends temporary accommodation to girls aged 15 and above, as well as young women who have been victims of various forms of violence, particularly instances of domestic abuse.
