Read more It gathers resources to offer high-quality treatment to patients with spinal issues, especially those with limited financial means. By collaborating with healthcare professionals and socially aware individuals and organisations, it strives to raise awareness and provide comprehensive spine health services to all. Established in 1998 by dedicated Spine Surgeons, the Foundation's mission is clear: to deliver specialized spinal solutions at reasonable rates to underprivileged individuals. Its overarching goal is to extend medical, financial, and other forms of assistance to those unable to access treatment for spinal disorders through tertiary care hospitals.

Programs

  • Rural Health Programmes

The Spine Foundation collaborates with organizations like SEARCH in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, providing free spine clinics and surgeries every three months to the neglected tribal and non-tribal populations. This partnership aims to address spine ailments in a region where healthcare access is limited. Additionally, the Foundation sponsors spinal surgeries at Parmarth Ashram in Rishikesh and conducts camps, seeing hundreds of patients and performing surgeries. In Dhule, Maharashtra, it holds OPD camps, seeing around 350 patients and scheduling surgeries for those in need.

  • Urban Health Programme

    District

The Spine Foundation extends its services to urban areas through initiatives like the 'Spine Clinic' at V.N. Desai Hospital in Santacruz, Mumbai. Since September 2009, the clinic has aimed to deliver specialized spine care to patients in need, reducing the burden on tertiary care hospitals like Nair and KEM. Foundation doctors volunteer their expertise at V.N. Desai Hospital, offering consultations, surgeries, and rehabilitation services at minimal costs. Funding comes from the Foundation itself, as well as MCGM and Government health schemes.

  • Training Programme

    District

Since 1998, the Spine Foundation has been training young orthopaedic surgeons through its three-year Fellowship program, designed for post-MS/DNB individuals. The program, conducted across Mumbai's tertiary care institutes such as Lilavati Hospital and Breach Candy Hospital, offers comprehensive training in various aspects of orthopaedic spine practice, including degenerative conditions, trauma, and neoplasms. Fellows gain hands-on experience in clinics, ward management, and surgeries under the guidance of experienced surgeons like Dr. Bhojraj and Dr. Abhay Nene. Emphasis is placed not only on technical skills but also on communication and interpersonal abilities, particularly in interacting with patients and families. Fellows receive a stipend as remuneration, and upon completion, are awarded a Fellowship Completion Certificate, signifying their proficiency as spine surgeons.
