Community Action for Rural Development (CARD) is an organisation that was established in 1982 by Mr. P. Vedachalam, Mrs. S. R. Jaya, and their associa Read moretes. It obtained official recognition under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act in December 1982 and is also registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) 2010, as well as under sections 12A and 80G of the Income Tax Act 1961. CARD's headquarters are located in Samathuvapuram, Pulivalam Post, Thirumayam Taluk, Pudukkottai District, Tamil Nadu, India. The organisation began its activities immediately after its registration. CARD's primary objective is to alleviate poverty by focusing on education, livelihood, health, and environmental development. It achieves this by providing educational support to underprivileged children in rural schools, promoting the livelihoods of rural women, girls, boys, and small farmers, implementing health, nutrition, water, and sanitation programmes, and working towards the conservation of degraded forest lands and mangrove forests. CARD is guided by core values that include ensuring gender and social equality, building trust and confidence through credibility, acting with honesty and integrity, fostering teamwork and consensus building, and demonstrating compassion by understanding and respecting the perspectives of others.

    1) Running of De-addiction Hospital at Samathuvapuram
    2) Construction of sanitary blocks for rural Government schools
    3) Installation of water purification plants to rural Government Schools
    4) Awareness Programme on HIV/AIDS, Leprosy, Cancer, Diabetics and Water and Sanitation related diseases

    1) Cement Block Manufacturing Unit for Rural Women in Karur District
    2) Goat Rearing Project for Rural Poor Women
    3) Cashew cultivation and processing unit at Pachamalai in Trichy District
    4) Tailroing Training Programme in Ramanathapuram District.

  • Education Programmes

    1) Conducting of After School Education and Guidance Centres in 35 villages of Karur and Coimbatore Districts.
    2) Provision educational infrastructure such as computer lab, text books, note books, benches and desks and interactive panels.
    3) Distribution of Educational materials to the poor rural children studying in Government Schools.
