SVRCC is located in the Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu in Keezhputhupattu, a village on the Puducherry-Tamil Nadu border. The college is managed by Read more Sadguru Sri Gnanananda Seva Trust, registered as a ‘Public Charitable Trust’ under the Indian Trusts Act and under Section 12AA of the Indian Income Tax Act. SVRCC has been imparting vocational training to school dropouts from socio-economically backward families and getting them employment. It offers yearlong courses in fourteen technical trades with a sensible balance of concept and practice and with the assurance of a decent job on successful completion. The course curriculum comprises 9 months of classroom training and 3 months of on-the-job internship with an industrial/service unit. Its pedagogy focuses not just on livelihood but on building character and the right attitude towards work, life and society among the youngsters who come from poor and broken homes with stunted formal education and who are at a dead end.

Impact

With 15 years of experience, Swami Vivekananda Rural Community College has offered 13 diverse courses, training over 3,500 students, placing 3,150 of them in collaboration with over 100 recruiting partners.

Programs

  • Teach & Transform Programme

    SVRCC actively seeks out students from disadvantaged backgrounds, often with fractured family situations and limited educational opportunities. Recognizing that these young minds require an unconventional approach, it places a strong emphasis on holistic education and innovative teaching methods. The institution lives by the motto that distinctiveness is essential for survival in the ever-evolving educational landscape. It continuously engages with local industries, parents, the community, and fellow community colleges to ensure its educational offerings remain dynamic and consistently appreciates in value.

  • Girl Child And Women Empowerment Programme

    SVRCC is dedicated to broadening the horizons of what defines "women's education." The curriculum encompasses courses traditionally linked to female preferences, such as fashion design, garment production, accountancy assistance, nursing support, medical laboratory technology, and beautician training. Female students are actively encouraged to explore fields that have historically witnessed limited female representation, fostering their empowerment to transcend gender stereotypes.

  • Punnagai Programme

    The partnership encompasses the Puducherry Police Department, where students receive training under the 'Muskaan' Programme (referred to as 'Punnagai' in Tamil, meaning 'Smile' in English). This collaborative effort, jointly facilitated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), the Government of India, and the Puducherry Police Department, centres on the reformation of parentless and troubled youth. These individuals come from various disadvantaged backgrounds and families grappling with adversity, which may include children with incarcerated parents.

  • Educational Courses Programme

    SVRCC offers diverse educational programmes for students, such as Beautician and Skin Care, Animation & Web Designing, Fashion Design & Garment Making, Medical Lab Technician, and General Duty Nursing Assistant. Each course is designed with specific objectives, ensuring students gain a comprehensive understanding of their chosen field. For example, the Skin Care and Grooming course delves into anatomy, while the Animation & Web Designing programme covers fundamental computer concepts. The Fashion Design & Garment Making course explores the history of sewing machines, and the Medical Lab Technician programme focuses on clinical laboratory science, aiding in the diagnosis. Additionally, the General Duty Nursing Assistant course includes topics like nursing concepts and community services.

  • Green Initiatives

    SVRCC places a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability. The campus features rainwater harvesting systems and a sewage treatment plant to manage water resources efficiently. Discouraging the use of plastic is a proactive measure undertaken. A notable addition to their initiatives is a tree plantation program, fostering eco-awareness among students who, in turn, influence their peers and communities positively towards environmental preservation.
