Assisted Living For Autistic Adults (ALFAA) works with the vision of providing quality short and long-term, customised respite and residential facilit Read moreies, for care and protection of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The retirement home / residential day care campus where round the clock care and assistance is given consists of residential cottages and ground plus one storey flats as living comforts for the hostlers, along with walkways, play areas and small tree groves to allow self expression and growth. Workshops and vocational training are made part of the hosteler's routine. Activities such as packaging, chopping of vegetables, laundry, paper glass making, banana stem plate making, garland and jewellery making, painting and ceramic work (like tiles making) are encouraged in these workshops to keep them engaged and occupied in work, to help improve their attention span. The campus encourages a self-grooming set up where stimulatory and sensory activities/equipment such as pedicure and manicure, body building, gym training, vibrating chairs and massages, swimming and cycling, sand walking and sauna bathing are provided so that people with ASD can live as healthy and productive members of the community. Through counselling sessions with people having ASD and their families, it serves to empower them by equipping them with a body of resources and support systems. Conducts screening and diagnostic assessments and holds educational programmes to increase awareness about autism to ensure that people with autism receive an early and accurate diagnosis. Provided online classes during COVID-19 considering the fact that it is difficult for their beneficiaries to maintain social distancing, wear a mask and they are also the most vulnerable people who cannot be separated from parents/family if they test positive.
