Additionally, the organisation works to sensitize local communities and garner support for persons with disabilities, helping them access relevant schemes and lead improved lives.

Programs

  • HAL Airport Road Home

    The HAL Airport Road Home in Bangalore empowers physically challenged girls and women from disadvantaged backgrounds. It offers spacious accommodations, dining facilities, and medical care. With a capacity for 50 residents, the home provides educational support, vocational training, and personal development activities. It continues to care for those unable to achieve economic independence. Many residents have found employment and support their families. Bhuvaneshwari, who overcame her disability, now works as a Deputy Manager at IBM. The home focuses on individual abilities, encouraging social interaction and skill development. It emphasizes education and provides extra support for children with learning difficulties. A library and festival celebrations contribute to the residents' growth.

  • Whitefield Home

    The Whitefield Home, operated by Cheshire Home India's Bangalore unit, provides a safe haven for elderly and severely physically challenged women. Situated in an eco-friendly location, the home offers accommodation for up to 35 residents and promotes therapeutic activities like needlework and crafts. With an infirmary block and dedicated staff, it ensures essential medical care and physiotherapy. The compassionate sisters of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent De Paul oversee the home, providing love, care, and discipline. Residents receive nutritious meals, and volunteers offer companionship and support. The home strives to maximize residents' potential, offering opportunities for income generation and engaging activities.

  • Physiotherapy Unit

    The physiotherapy clinic at Cheshire Home India's Bangalore unit caters to the needs of elderly residents and young individuals with physical disabilities. With the generous support of corporate sponsors, the clinic was established in March 2022. A dedicated therapist provides manual massaging, physical activity, and equipment-based treatments. Currently, 25 residents receive regular physiotherapy sessions, aiding their mobility and pain management. Notably, the clinic also serves individuals from low-income groups, particularly men aged 20 to 45, helping them recover from temporary disabilities caused by accidents, strokes, or health issues. The clinic's goal is to facilitate their return to work and support their families. In 2022, the clinic conducted 1,544 sessions for people of all ages and genders. Going forward, the clinic plans to expand its team of physiotherapists to better serve the community's needs.
