Karuna Trust, established in 1986 is a public charitable trust, affiliated to Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra (VGKK) located at Biligiri Rangana H Read moreills (B R Hills) in Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka. Karuna Trust strives to provide an equitable and integrated model of healthcare, education and livelihood by empowering marginalized people to become self – reliant. The trust manages 61 PHCs across five states of India in under public private partnership, providing comprehensive primary health care for a population of about 1.5 million.

Programs

  • Secondary Health Care

    Secondary healthcare is available to the rural populace at the Vivekananda Hospital at Tezu, Lohit District of Arunachal Pradesh. The following services have been offered by the health center:

    IPD and OPD services
    Minor OT, dental care, eye care, radiographic diagnostics, and laboratory
    Essential 24-hour obstetric facility capable of handling both vaginal and cesarean sections
    24/7 access to physicians and paramedic personnel

    In close collaboration with the ANMs and other medical staff at the PHC, the Vivekananda Eye Hospital has been operating as a separate entity for eye treatment. Weekly eye camps are organized by ANMs, nurses, PHCs, and other government hospitals in the villages of T Narasipura Taluk, Nanjangud, and Chamarajanagar district in Mysore district. For Rs 1000 each case, we have been performing between 120 and 150 intraocular surgeries every month using a sophisticated small incision technique.

  • Home for the Homeless - Manasa (Women) and Manasadhama (Men)

    District

    In response to this perceived need, Manasa/Manasadhama was created to give these individuals a system that would meet their emotional, mental, and bodily needs. Manasa/Manasadhama aims to provide a comprehensive model for the treatment, assistance, and recovery of Mysore's mentally ill homeless population. The organization also aims to alter societal perceptions and increase public awareness of mentally ill homeless people.
