Samraksha believes in the power of individuals and communities to drive positive change through their actions. Over the past 25 years, it has seen fir Read moresthand the ability of people to enact change across various contexts. Initially focusing on HIV-related work, Samraksha supported marginalized groups such as women in sex work, sexual minorities, and those affected by HIV. In the early years, amidst widespread discrimination and limited understanding of HIV, Samraksha empowered these communities to recognize their strengths and combat discrimination. Today, many of these groups are leading their efforts in HIV prevention, care, and support, while also prioritizing broader empowerment and development initiatives. Samraksha remains dedicated to facilitating similar community-driven responses to address various social challenges.

Programs

  • Adolescent Resilience Building Programme

    District

    Its Adolescent Resilience Building Programme provides comprehensive support to vulnerable adolescents from HIV-affected households in Koppal district. The programme includes health and academic assistance, continuous counselling and mentoring, and life skills training. It aims to establish individual connections with each adolescent, comprehend their goals, and facilitate their accomplishment. Currently, it is assisting 150 adolescents through this initiative.

  • HIV Care And Support

    In its HIV Care and Support programme, Samraksha addresses gaps in the continuum of care by collaborating with the public health system. It delivers psychosocial interventions and operates two care and support centres in Koppal and Karwar, Karnataka. These centres deliver treatment education, adherence support, life stage counselling, and facilitate referrals for additional social services. Currently, over 8000 clients are enrolled in these services, aiming to ensure holistic support for individuals living with HIV.
