About

Through research, capacity building, and advocacy, Nazariya Foundation works to fight for the rights of queer people, or LBT (Lesbain Bisexual Transge Read morender). It aims to sensitize organizations that work on issues of gender-based violence, livelihoods, education, health from the perspective of queer people, bringing to light the double marginalization due to their sexual orientation and their female gender assigned at birth. Nazariya works with the working class LBT people in Delhi to understand the realities of working class LBT people, build a deeper understanding on gender and sexuality, and create links between class and queer issues. It works to address the issue of the medical community's perception of trans people, and how to help parents, friends, and family understand their identity and orientation. It conducts workshops in colleges, and offers training and sessions on gender and sexuality in organisations working on issues of violence, health, livelihood, and education. It also runs a helpline and offers face-to-face counseling, and does case work to help LBT people to counter family and other kinds of violence. Through its talk series Our Lives Our Tales (OLOT), it preserves the past legacy and history of queer people, recounting the history of the queer movement.
