Prerana is active in the space of education providing financial support, skill training and career guidance to underprivileged urban and rural youth. Read moreIt aims to enable access to education for every deserving student and has set itself the mission to support ten thousand students from education to employment by the year 2030. It works with the belief that education is a potent medium to end poverty and stays connected to underprivileged students providing them with appropriate counselling and ensuring that they are not discouraged and drop out of school. The organisation is presently working to empower students in South Karnataka districts of Chamarajanagar, Ramanagara, Chikballapur and Banglore urban and rural.

Impact

Prerana has made an impact, benefiting over 5000 students throughout the years, with ongoing programmes currently involving more than 2000 students, of which 80% come from rural colleges, and 70% represent girls.

Programs

  • SKF Scholarship for Girls

    Partnering with SKF, Prerana runs an exclusive scholarship programme for underprivileged girls. This scholarship provides financial support to these girls to help them pursue education and fulfil their dreams. It also conducts classroom sessions, online mentoring and a residential programme to supplement their academic progress.

  • Skills Training Programme

    To enable the students to secure employment in the future, Prerana conducts skill training for the students, hand-holding them with foundational skills including English speaking and aptitude, professional skills including digital and financial literacy certifying their competence with citations from NIIT and NCFM respectively.

    Final-year students who are on the threshold of passing out are put through preparatory classes to help with resume writing and appearing for interviews. The students are regularly taken out on excursions to visit industries and educational institutions like planetariums, museums and art galleries, to provide them with fun and learning at the same time.

  • Career Connect Programme

    Industry experts, recruitment agencies and consultants are frequently invited over to the organization’s premises to guide the students. Career guidance is provided to final-year students to help them identify their areas of interest and match professions based on their performances and inclinations.

    The industry experts, consultants and recruitment agencies provide valuable input to the students informing them about industry expectations, conducting mock interviews and generally orienting them towards the next step of searching for employment.

  • Scholarship Programme

    Prerana support meritorious underprivileged students with financial assistance to pursue their academic dreams. It follows a three-step process of selecting deserving students, conducting a test followed by an interview. The volunteers next visit the homes of successful candidates to find out their living conditions and liabilities.

    The assistance package is duly presented to candidates at a formal ceremony attended by sponsors. Prerana is constantly in touch with the students and institutions to remain updated with their academic progress and also through letters that the students are supposed to write back sharing their thoughts and any issues that they are facing.
