Vishranthi, situated near Jadigenahalli on the Hoskote-Malur road in Bangalore, stands as a versatile facility catering to the needs of senior citizen Read mores, an orphanage, and a primary vocational training centre for rural underprivileged individuals. It endeavours to create a tranquil haven where elderly residents can live harmoniously, free from worries. In today's society, senior citizens constitute a significant 25% of the population. As life expectancy rises, this proportion is poised to grow, presenting a challenge in the years ahead. Unlike some developed nations, our country lacks comprehensive social security schemes for the elderly. Therefore, initiatives like Vishranthi are crucial to advocate for and safeguard the interests of our elders. They also serve to raise awareness that each one of us can contribute to enhancing the well-being of the elderly. While respecting elders is deeply rooted in our culture, contemporary society seems to have overlooked this admirable value amidst the rush of modern life. The rapid pace of our current lifestyle, although bringing greater financial stability and material comforts, has strained our interpersonal connections. In dual-income nuclear families, both partners are stretched for time, caught in a perpetual rush. This shift in priorities and values marks an unfortunate change. In the Children's Home, Vishranthi prioritizes providing the children with the care they rightfully deserve, ensuring access to nutritious meals, quality education, hygienic surroundings, ample healthy activities, and, significantly, affection and warmth. In return, the youngsters offer the elders a fulfilling time, allowing them the opportunity to experience the joys of being cherished grandparents. They engage in playful activities, study sessions, shared prayers, and are nurtured and supported while also embracing the wisdom shared by the elders.

Programs

  • Improving Rural Health and Hygiene

As part of our initiative to enhance rural health and hygiene, Vishranthi has organized numerous health camps. One of the primary objectives is to introduce a cost-effective sanitary napkin manufacturing unit in each village to ensure self-sufficiency in meeting the sanitary needs of the community. The goal includes educating and encouraging rural girls and women to adopt the use of sanitary napkins.
The initial step towards achieving this goal began on April 7, 2012, when Vishranthi distributed complimentary packs of sanitary napkins to 500 young girls and women.

  • Providing Vocational Training to Rural Youth

Presently, we are offering complimentary training to the youth from 11 villages in various skills such as tailoring, basic computer operations, spoken English, beautician courses, organic areca plate-making, electrical repair, candle making, among others. Alongside the training, mid-day meals are provided. Vishranthi aims to expand the training program to include courses such as mobile phone repair, refrigerator repair, hardware support, pottery, housemaid training, sanitary napkin manufacturing, and more. The objective is to empower individuals with diverse skills, enabling them to earn a livelihood with dignity and self-respect.

  • Adoption centre

The primary objective of the adoption centre is to rescue newborns who are abandoned in distressing conditions like dustbins or bushes immediately after birth. These abandoned babies are taken to hospitals across Bangalore city and the surrounding areas. Upon receiving information from local authorities or hospital personnel about an abandoned child, Vishranthi swiftly arranges for the infants to undergo a thorough medical examination at a neonatal intensive care unit. Once medically cleared, the infants are transferred to the adoption centre, where a dedicated nurse provides individual care to each child.
Vishranthi prioritizes ensuring the overall well-being—physical, emotional, and mental—of the infants. They become a source of comfort, filling the void in the hearts of the caregivers while awaiting adoption into a new, loving family.

  • The Elders' Home

The goal of Vishranthi is to provide compassionate care for our elders. Each elder is nurtured in an environment resembling an "extended family," ensuring their physical comfort and the freedom to pursue their interests, considering mutual comfort and convenience. Moreover, they find joy in the prospect of acting as "grandparents" to the children at the orphanage. Additionally, they are encouraged to participate in the vocational training of youth currently organized by Vishranthi.
