To accomplish this mission, the organisation aims to gather sufficient resources and manage them with a commitment to dedication, efficiency, and transparency. The Society achieves this by setting up and curating children’s libraries in Government schools. By providing access to education and creating a conducive learning environment, the organisation seeks to empower disadvantaged students and support their overall development.

Programs

  • Prize Programme

    The BREAD Society attempts to encourage students' reading habits and enhance their writing, comprehension, and communication skills through a prize programme. Students are required to read a minimum of 10 books and write brief reviews highlighting important points, new knowledge gained, and the moral of the story. To motivate others, previous prize recipients are ineligible for future prizes. Reviews should be submitted by headmasters with recommendations and scanned samples from each class by August of the following academic year. This initiative fosters a love for reading and provides tangible recognition for students' literary efforts.

  • Replenishing Of Books To Existing Bread

    Every BREAD library school is provided with 40 or more new books on a yearly basis.

  • BREAD Libraries Programme

    To nurture a reading habit amongst students, BREAD sets up children’s libraries in Government schools. Books for the library are curated by an expert committee. Each library has around 600-650 books catering to the interests of children between the ages of 5-14. Schools that benefit under this programme depend on the donor’s discretion. Else, BREAD targets Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya or a high school that secures more than 6 NMMS awards a year. BREAD annually replenishes books in the library. It has set up 1810 libraries, in 14 years since its inception, in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. BREAD is volunteer-driven with no paid employees in 34 years. Members provide free resources, cover expenses, and emphasize objectivity, accountability, and transparency. Admin expenses are around 1% of project costs.

  • Bread Children'S Library

    Student of government schools have little or no access to reading books. To inculcate book reading culture among them, BREAD decided to set up libraries in govt. high schools. 650 books of interest to children are selected by an Expert Committee. Each library is also privided a steel bookcase for safe custody of books. BREAD set up 1,810 libraries in schools from 2009-10 to date. Initially it setup libraries in schools that secured 6 or more National Means cum Merit Scholarships (NMMS). From 2020-21, BREAD has focused on setting up libraries in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs). Donors get the first choice to select schools to set up libraries. Most donors leave the choice to BREAD Society knowing its objectivity in selecting schools. BREAD libraries are operated by students lending books to their classmates to take home, read and return. It felicitates Head Maters (HMs) and teachers responsible for NMMS awards for their selfless service in coaching students. Theory of Change

Education is the best means to bring in the desired change of improving the lot of the marginalized sections of the society.

Milestones & Track Record

In the last 14 years, BREAD has established 1,810 children's libraries in government schools in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Each library is given 650 books of interest to children with colorful graphic designs on moral values, history, biographies, epics, culture etc. A steel bookcase with glass doors is also provided for safe custody of the books. Existing libraries are replenished with 40 new books every year. 10 students are awarded prizes for best book reviews from each school every year. BREAD libraries are operated by students lending books to classmates to take home. Rs. 30,000 is the amount of donation to sonsor a BREAD library.
