EFI is dedicated to promoting the conservation of India's freshwater bodies, which are often neglected and polluted due to human activity. It believes that these water bodies are important for sustaining different species of life, and aim to inspire the public to conserve them. Its main focus, besides the conservation of wildlife and tackling waste, is on adopting, methodically refreshing, and naturally restoring freshwater lakes and ponds.

EFI's Samudra project aims to raise awareness about the ecological importance of beaches and their surroundings, which are ignored due to their use for leisure. The organisation volunteers with city administrations to clean and maintain beach stretches in important cities with plans to extend the project to other cities. The focus is not just on cleaning beaches but on tackling waste build-up and its impact on wildlife.

EFI organizes weekend volunteering programmes across India, for conservation of the environment. It welcomes students and interns to participate in their projects, ranging from cleanups, plantations, to wildlife photography and street theatre performances. The 3-month-long internship programme offers real-time solutions for environmental decline. Senior citizens can also contribute to the efforts through volunteering.
